I’ve noticed a lot of push back regarding the necessity of IV’s in the hospital.
When you come into the hospital to deliver, it is advised to establish IV access fairly soon after admission. The reason is to have quick access in the event of an emergency and/or to give any medications needed, efficiently.

Some situations in which IV access is needed quickly are:
1. 🩸Excessive bleeding/hemorrhage
2. 😫Pain medicine
3. 🤒Maternal fever/infection
4. 💟Concerning fetal heart rate changes
5. 🆘Emergency cesarean section
6. ⬆️⬇️Blood pressure

All of these conditions allows Providers and nurses to deliver the best care for you and your baby.

Keep in mind… we can not do anything without your consent, so if you are adamantly against having an IV, that is your right.
It is our job to educate you about the risks and benefits.
