What is Postpartum ?

Postpartum is referred to the period after baby is delivered.
The term 6 weeks of postpartum is often heard because this is the length of time a mom can expect vaginal bleeding, or lochia, to last. Sutures have dissolved or incision should be healed. It’s also the time most employers will compensate working moms before they are expected to return or 8 weeks for c-section moms.

The truth is, the PP period lasts as long as a mother has not fully recovered. Bleeding cessation does not dictate the end of this very individualized time period.

Whatever time it takes for you to recover, is the length of your Postpartum time frame.
